Today, our special guest is AJ Kahn with United States Business Bureau. Our goal is to provide the small business owner with new and innovative ways to market & manage their businesses, which will enhance their recognition and reputation.

One thing I wish I had known before starting my business was to not do it alone. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other sources who can help you.

What is your biggest challenge today?
Not being able to meet face-to-face with our clients due to Covid. We’ve adapted in a great way using Zoom, but there is a serious transaction that is typically not completed at the end of a virtual conversation, and that is a handshake. So our biggest challenge today is getting back to those in-person meetings.

What are some of the best resources that have helped you along the way?

  • Networking groups
  • The support of our members

What rule does delegating play in your business?
My organization is comprised of many small business owners. I don’t typically ask them to do the work for me, however I do have some delegation platforms in order. We have marketing directors and entre-leaders who help connect the public to the trusted businesses in their territory.

How do you prioritize in your business?
I set up accountability deadlines with our clients. I have one simple rule, the 50-50 rule. I complete the challenges set forth for the first half of the day so that I can account for any variable change the second half of the day. If everything is done by the first half of the day then I get to spend the second half of the day with family or by the poolside.

How do make sure everything gets done so you have time to spend with family?
I have a to-don’t list. This is a list of all of the things that you say you’re going to do but you push them aside or just stare at it. So I create a list on Sunday and then I don’t have to look at it for the rest of the week unless I have time to pick and choose from the list.

Relationship tips:

  1. Don’t sell to your clients. Build a relationship that strengthens and will be ongoing.
  2. People don’t do business with you because of the name of the company you represent. It’s you that they invest in.
  3. Dare to be different.
